How to identify flies
- House fly: gray, ¼ inch, four dark stripes on thorax
- Blow fly / bottle fly: metallic green or blue, slightly larger
- Fruit fly: tiny, tan, hovers around ripe produce
- Drain fly / moth fly: fuzzy, tear-drop shape, weak flier near drains
Signs of an infestation
- Persistent flies near trash, food prep areas, or windows
- Cluster of flies indoors with no obvious food source (check attic, wall void for animal carcass)
- Small dark spots on walls or light fixtures (fly droppings)
- Moth-like flies hovering near drains
Why flies thrive in the SFV
Outdoor trash storage, restaurant rear lots, and SFV's mild year-round temperatures keep fly pressure high. Mid- and late-summer heat waves can produce overnight population explosions.
The Evictr treatment process
- 1Species identification and source location
- 2Sanitation and source-removal recommendations (the #1 lever)
- 3Drain treatment for moth flies and clogged biofilms
- 4Targeted residual treatment to resting surfaces (rafters, soffits, dumpster enclosures)
- 5Fly light installation for commercial kitchens and food prep areas
Prevention tips
- Tight-fitting lids on indoor and outdoor trash containers
- Rinse recyclables before storing
- Pour boiling water and an enzyme drain cleaner monthly
- Address pet waste in yards daily
Frequently asked questions
Why do I have flies in my house when nothing's open?
Cluster flies or blow flies indoors usually indicate a dead animal in a wall void, attic, or crawl space — a rodent or bird that died after entering. We can locate and remediate.
How do I get rid of drain flies?
Drain flies breed in the gel-like biofilm inside drains. Pouring boiling water alone doesn't help — you need an enzyme drain cleaner used over several days, plus treatment of the offending drain. We handle both.
Do bug zappers work for flies?
Outdoor bug zappers kill mostly harmless insects and very few flies. Commercial-grade indoor fly lights with sticky boards are far more effective for food-prep environments.
